MY CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

My visual interpretation of Triangulation for the Mixed Model Research Method I used in my thesis study - PBS Integration. It's the multiplicity practice in mixed-model that makes it different from the mono-method design.

THESIS WRITING

So I started full time work on my thesis paper and I'd say it's a LOT of work - mind and body. I had about 4 changes, which means 4 sets of Chapters1 to 3 writing.  It's on the 4th "edition" that I finally figured out what i exactly want to do.... (no wonder a lot of M.A. students are not able to make it through graduation as thesis writing is really a pain...!) - BUT.. am up for the challenge.

am no statistics person (i observed am not patient figuring out those formula, but that's why there are statisticians... division of labor!) but mixed research method caught my attention. so that's the method am using in my research as it maximizes qualitative and quantitative methods within and across stages. Now I am excited to start field work after my defense. Let's see what happens next...

BREAKTIME

Food and entertainment are great ways for a break from work. Let me recap my first day of break: first stop is The Bellagio. Had a juice for a start at a bar while waiting for LIna with my cousin's friends. Contemporary dining at NOODLES! Still at Bellagio's around 10pm - my first taste of warm Saki(rice wine) in tea cup size shots and my god! In 2 tea cups and my world started swirling! Whooh! Felt better in an hour though.

Then watched them play cards until 2am or so. Drove to M Hotel to drop the rest of the group and drove back to My hotel to take a nap as I would be picking my cousin in 2 hours after the nap.

BLOOM'S TAXONOMY EVOLVES BLOOMIN' PEACOCK!

I came across ilearntechnology blogsite through the buzzworthy section of my website educationet . This illustration of Bloom's Taxonomy, which i call now Bloom's Evolution, as Bloomin' Peacock by Kelly Tenkely, I say,  is catchy and very creative. Scrolling down further and the illustration below gave me a good laugh for its clever integration of technology in every stage of the taxonomy.

Don't you think so?

TIME FOR BREAK: SHRIMP SCAMPI AND DRAGON ROLLS AT THE ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO, LAS VEGAS

I know there are lots of new places to go now in Vegas for fabulous dining (ah! dining experience to the max!). Yet there are really places where you keep coming back because they just suit your taste buds and ambiance.

Here's a couple for me .....

This is Shrimp Scampi (but not the one from Big Al's Oyster Bar at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Vegas) - my favorite. Others may find Big Al's Shrimp Scampi to be mediocre but to my taste buds, it's the best! the way those shrimps are sauteed with fresh herbs, garlic, and creamy white wine sauce over linguine... it's just perfect for me...creamy with a bite.

Also, I may not be that much on meat (specially beef) but Canal Street Restaurant's Filet Mignon is lusciously succulent as well.

And if you are a fan of japanese foods, try the dragon roll at Koji Sushi Bar and China Bistro still at The Orleans. Though the dragon roll image here is not from Koji, but it's a foretaste of a gustatory bliss in Vegas.

BON APPETIT!

CKC FOUNDATION DAY STAGE SHOW

it's on...... the 2010 CKC Foundation Day preparation days!

So,..... it's Foundation Day Celebration again this November for CKCians. What makes it "grandioso" is the bounty of talents from all of you -  students and staff.

The most eye-catching part of  last year was the 10-Minute-On-The-Spot -Water-Color-Painting-on-Stage on a 4x8- feet-drawing-slate. It was the first in the history of Stage Shows of CKC. Only 4 brave creative students participated out of a possible hundred of students with visual arts talent.

This year, I'm looking for talented students to do the SAND ART live performance on stage.  To all interested students, come visit the office for an interview anytime from Tuesday to Friday.

Let's do it again!

SYMBALOO - USER-FRIENDLY BOOKMARKING

There's one PLE that I find easy to work on - SYMBALOO . Easy on the eyes, not too much graphics (which I prefer but not to interpret as short of aesthetics though) and simple steps in organizing bookmarks. If you are the type who likes moderate graphic presentation of stuff, then I guess you should give it a try. SYMBALOO.

SPEECH PLAY - MY NEW BOOK SERIES FOR 2010

By August, I got three new titles coming out in the market - SPEECH PLAY Book Series. The books are more on learning English as a second language genre.  Originally, it contained a lot of pages introducing the American Sign Language but for some reasons the final edition has been changed. Just the same am glad all are coming out finally in the market.

MY STUDENTS' BLOGS

When the subjects am handling now in the college department were given to me, I asked myself, "alright... so what's relevant and fun that I can use as an approach and of course, the content of  my syllabus for all the subjects I have?". I let the idea just sat for days.... weeks .... and as soon as the school started, everything fell into place. I thought of giving the students something new other than just yack infront of the class. A kind of assessment that is technologically anchored - the Blog. And the result just amazes me! I see a different perspective of the students who are mostly timid and yet are a well of interesting individuals full of talents and life which, mind you, not a glimpse of it in the classroom had I stick to the tried and tested face-to-face teaching approach. I guess this will be an extra-ordinary semester for them as we level up on the blogging approach as part of classroom instruction. Well done, class.... well done.

PLE (Personal Learning Environment)

I always surf  the internet on what's going on in the field of education until I came across the topic PLE or Personal Learning Environment. I read articles/blogs and watched videos (through YouTube) about it and I got so interested. There's this one video that shared an impressive work of a 7th grader - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEls3tq5wIY&feature=related  that opened up one more type of assessment i could use in my classes. Now, I am working on my own PLE at Symbaloo - http://www.symbaloo.com/ - and I find it to be of advantage to my work. It's like having your library/home/school anywhere and anytime. Soon as am done organizing my PLE, I will introduce this to my class and have them create their own PLE.

PBIS

So my thesis study is all about adapting PBIS in school and see its impact on the referral cases in the Office of the Prefect of Discipline. I am doing now lots of reading and studies on the system and trying to figure out what should be taken in and what will be skipped from the system to fit in the unique needs of the school. As I slowly go into the details of integrating PBIS to the Behavior Management system that is in use now, I find it more and more interesting..... yet challenging ( i think it's in the "challenging" part that I am excited about.). Everyday, new ideas come to mind and replace what I thought were  good ideas so my paper now is like in constant revision! As in Everyday! This Is Fun! I should start documenting the process lest i end up writing nothing on my paper.

JUST A QUICK NOTE FOR TODAY

checking my students' work online takes a lot of time but surprisingly, I get a lot of energy doing it. Seeing them able to make a blog after many attempts (what can I say, it's their first exposure to this type of learning technique and in a place where not everyone is able to access the internet for one reason or another) makes me feel so happy (and excited as well!). Definitely, there's a lot of improvement they can do to have a better blog. But for a novice, i believe it's a good start.

SYNERGESIS ?

Why Synergesis ?

Everytime I get to the topic on starting, and i mean in different contexts, the not-so-easy part is always the how-to-start something. It's not easy starting stuff - what to do first, what to write first, what to say first and on and on! makes you think a lot, tear-crumple-toss cycle, pace, blank stare, fidget, sing, hop, look around, tap, hop, stop ..... A LOT. But when it's there, everything seems to fall in place. It's easy to end things - you can simply finish it or stop writing or doing it and it's still THE END.

it took me close to an hour just to name my blog ! (geez! as if i don't know any English vocabulary)

I tried to set a guideline in search of a name - it should be reflective of what I want to put in my blog and how will this be of use to other people (in a good way i suppose) with the same interest that I have.

Finally the word synergy crossed my mind and I thought this is fitting. but Lo and Behold! It is amazing to learn how a lot of people use it as well. So I kinda modified the word by adding the suffix "sis" and blogger.com accepted it. (now this is some kind of a new word!) -> SYNERGESIS.
